Side by Side Shotguns
A side by side shotgun is one of the most elegant and ideal guns for hunting birds. And, a side by side shotgun is also a tradition in many families. What is so great about a side by side?
The side by side is a light gun. You can carry it for miles without wearing you down. There are only two bullets in the gun and that also makes it lighter to use.
The line of sight for a side by side is better. You can look down both barrels to aim. This is an advantage because, in a split second, you can get your bearings easier than with a single barreled gun.
The trigger on a side by side will allow you to shoot out of either barrel. A side by side will most often have a modified choke barrel and a full choke barrel. Most people leave the gun to shoot the modified barrel first and the full choke barrel second because a modified choke has a wider pattern and the full choke patter is tighter and shoots better at longer distances. With a side by side, you can push a button or lever to change which barrel shoots first. That is important because a far away shot will do better with full choke than with modified.
Are two bullets enough? Most people will be lucky to get off two good shots. There isn't usually enough time to unload a ton of shells. For people that can shoot, two shots is good enough.
Side by sides are also easy to clean. You can literally strip the whole thing down in under a minute. You have easy access to clean the whole thing.
Many side by side shotguns are very elegant. They might have gold or silver engravings and butt stock that is engraved in beautiful ways.
