Sage Grouse Hunting
The sage grouse move a lot. They can fly and move a long ways very quickly. They are a bit larger than a pheasant. The best way to hunt sage grouse is to go for the watering hole. Out in the middle of the sage brush there isn't really all that much water. The sage grouse will go to the watering hole first thing in the morning. If you get to the watering hole bright and early (in the dark) you may have a good hunt. Usually, the very first light, when you can barely see, is when they will arrive.
I can remember times going sage grouse hunting and being able to see what seemed like hundreds of them walking up just as the sun was barely shining over the ridge.
In sage grouse hunting, you simply hunt in the morning and then that is it. If you walk through sagebrush all day long, you will be very lucky if you ever find anything.
