Over and Under Shotguns

The over and under shotgun is similar to the side by side shotgun. The only difference is that the arrangement of the barrels being over and under instead of side by side.

Again, the over and under is another elegant shotgun. The look is great. Many of the over and unders are very expensive guns.

The over and under is usually a bit heavier to carry than a side by side shotgun. The reason is that more wood must be used to contain the two barrels.

An over and under shotgun is a little more clumsy than a side by side shotgun because the wood to hold the barrels must be thicker to hold in the barrels. You will actually be holding a thicker wider piece.

One of the main advantages to an over and under is shell ejection. The shotgun shells will fly out in a better trajectory. In most side by sides the shells must be extracted manually (pull with your hands). The over and under shotguns can have automatic ejection when the gun is opened.

You might be able to tell that the side by side is favored over the over and under. They are both great guns. The main reason people buy an over and under is for the look. Automatic shell ejection can be nice, but after you shoot twice and open the gun up its all over anyway. Personally, I hate looking for the shells in the weeds after they fly a mile away.
